Welcome to our home!

After a long drawn out process in waiting for the bank to approve our loan, we finally closed on our house on December 10th!  Unfortunately this was a little later than we had expected, and we had to be out of our apartment by December 13th at 8am.  Of course this also happened to be Josh's Coast Guard reserve weekend and the weekend of the first huge snow storm of the winter (as you can tell from the pictures above).  Luckily with the help of our awesome families and an awesome friend we were able to get everything moved by Sunday night.

When we found this house, we fell in love with the great open floor plan, the big fenced in yard and the nice neighborhood, but we knew it would need some major cosmetic work to get it to its full potential.  There hasn't been much done to the house since the 1970's, and to make things worse, the previous owner was legally blind, so we need to do A LOT of cleaning.  This blog will tell the story of our renovations.  We are hoping to do the majority of the work ourselves, I grew up watching my parents completely redo our house (built in the early part of the 1900's) and both Josh and I are pretty handy.

The good part is that the kitchen is in pretty good shape.  We will do some things in there eventually, but for now it is definitely livable.  I got lucky with a snow day on Monday and was able to get the whole kitchen cleaned and everything put away.  The only thing left to do is paint the inside of the pantry/bar cupboards so I can put that stuff away.  Since the kitchen is set up (for the most part) the next task is to get our bedroom set up.  For now, we are sleeping on our matress in one of the guest rooms and our clothes are spread between the two extra bedrooms.  We need to paint and also plan to take out the carpet.  Hopefully the wood floors underneath are as good as they look in the litttle corner we pulled up!  After the bedroom is all set we can move on to everything else....

Let the fun begin!
